The perfect scores just keep coming!

This time huge congratulations goes to The Courts team who have delivered a perfect score of 45/45 and a rating of “Excellent” thanks to their commitment to the Considerate Constructors Scheme Code of Conduct.

The team demonstrated a high degree of care for all aspects of "Respect for the Community" "Care for the Environment" and “Valuing the Workforce”.

Last week Helen and Zoe were invited to take part in a morning of Mock Interview training with a group of young people at Knowle DGE.

Starting off with a small task involving the young people creating mind maps identifying their skills, it was amazing to see the collaborative ability within the groups. Many were natural leaders and others were quick learners. Moving onto bad/good interview skills and finishing off with 1-2-1 and group interviews.

A variety of local volunteers were present to assist these young minds in building upon their professional skill set. There is no doubt these students will achieve great things when entering the world of work.

After 14 years of loyal service, it is with regret that we advise yesterday we said goodbye to “Rusty” our good old faithful Mercedes flat bed truck.

Rusty racked up over 125,000 miles travelling all over the South West delivering staff, materials and servicing our projects in a way that only a long standing loyal truck would do. We are very sad to see you go Rusty and hope you will be happy with your new owner. ☹

Anyway enough of the sentimental stuff, out with the old and in with the new – we wish a warm Bray & Slaughter welcome to Caroline, shortened to Caz our shiny new Euro 6 compliant dropside truck, this ensures we comply with ULEZ requirements in Bristol, Bath and a host of other UK cities and ensures we have a fleet of vehicles compliant with clean air regs. Caz, we hope you enjoy your stay as much as Rusty did!

On Saturday 20th May 2023 the Courts site team undertook a crucial operation involving the lifting of several air handling units onto the roof of The Courts in Bridewell Street.

This complex and logistically challenging operation took a great
deal of planning and coordination with a number of stakeholders including the Client team, local authority, adjacent businesses and designers and was carried out in collaboration with Sparrow Crane Hire Ltd.

The area surrounding the site ‘The Old Bridewell Street Magistrates Court’ is well known for its series of tunnels, basements, lightwells, culverts and an array of shallow below ground services.

The lift was safely and successfully executed and the installation
of the air handling units continues.

There are many triggers for anxiety from financial concerns to work related issues, relationships with friends and health worries to name a few, these triggers can cause isolation and loneliness which can be damaging to our mental health. It is therefore so important to support sufferers in anyway possible.

For #mentalhealthawarenessweek2023 we actively supported each other with a particular focus on anxiety, encouraging sufferers to practice coping methods to manage their anxiety such as; catching up with friends, speaking to a GP; exercise and many more.

Remember, it is essential to take care of yourself and others, and there's no shame in seeking help when needed. With the right support, anxiety can be managed and overcome.

On the sunny morning of 17th May at 601 Whitchurch Lane Helen Tamlin our mental health first aider set up a Mental Health Clinic.

With a third of construction workers suffering with elevated levels of anxiety every day it is so important to raise awareness in any way possible. Each morning our site management teams have briefed the workforce on anxiety during a dedicated toolbox talk presentation. The objective of the clinic is for any member of the workforce to pop in for a conversation in a confidential environment.

To end the week our apprentice Zoe popped into our sites at 601 Whitchurch Lane, The Courts and Pottern Barns to drop off her amazing homemade cupcakes, which everyone was more than happy to take off her hands. Throughout the day the site teams have carried out a stand down to chat about mental health and the resources available to support everyone.

Back at the office our other colleagues decided to go a different route and opted for breakfast rolls enjoyed in the morning sunshine. It was a perfect opportunity for everyone to take a break and let loose for a moment after a busy week.

The weather was incredible yesterday at our site at 601 Whitchurch Lane in Bristol. The sun was shining and there were only a few clouds in the sky, the perfect environment for the works being continued on the roofs.

This week our groundworks sub-contractor Kore Construction have been preparing slabs in Block A together with the installation of wind catchers in Block B. Internal walls will be going up in Block C and the concrete slab has been poured in Block B as can be identified in these images.

We hope this spell of sunshine continues as we work our way through Spring!

What a spread! This afternoon we took a moment to celebrate history being made this weekend at King Charles III Coronation.

It was nice to celebrate with our work family ahead of the main event over some tasty treats, good vibes and conversation.

We hope that you all enjoy the extended break at the weekend whatever you are up to.

On Monday Zoe Koeberg returned to Oasis Academy John Williams to take part in an informative talk led by Katy Davies and arranged by Bristol Works.

Zoe is our digital marketing apprentice and she spoke about her experience and knowledge of being an apprentice as well as why she enjoys being an employee at Bray and Slaughter. Zoe is very passionate about apprenticeships and enjoys talking about the varied further education options available.

The students were engaged, and we hope some may even be inspired to do an apprenticeship within the construction industry in the future.

Congratulations to the other panel members, Sarah, Regan, and Yolanda who all spoke confidently about their personal experiences and shared useful information to help assist these students in making decisions that will impact their futures.

As always it was a pleasure to visit Oasis John Williams and we look forward to returning.
