St Michael’s Church – Heart of the Community Project

Key Facts

  • Value: £3.5m
  • Sector: Commercial / Charity
  • Programme: 80 Weeks
  • Scope of Work: The transformation of a derelict site in the centre of Stoke Gifford into a new church and community centre.

The multi-purpose centre includes a 600-seat auditorium and consists of a steel frame construction with pre-cast concrete flooring and a traditional pitched roof covered with natural slate tiles.

The original barn stone wall was de-constructed and re-built within the new structure. The work was put on hold at one stage whilst Archaeologists unearthed foundations of a 13th/14th Century Tithe Barn on the site.

The project involved a large amount of community liaison and fundraising activites and was blessed mid-build by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
